This year for the High Holy Days, we wanted our Prayer for Israel to offer a larger story; one that acknowledges the hopes and prayers we hold in a wider context. We are grateful to Rabbis Rachel Hertzman and Rex Perlmeter for this offering, which was shared on Rosh Hashanah morning and which we will offer again on Yom Kippur.
Prayer for Israel
Holy One of blessing, bless the land of Israel and her people. Fill them with Your compassion and spread over them the sukkah of Your shalom. May a spark of Your spirit inspire the actions of Israel’s elected leaders and officials, judges and advisors that they may follow the paths of justice, liberty and righteousness.
Be with all the people of Israel wherever we are. Uproot hatred and animosity, jealousy and evil. Plant within our hearts the love of a Zion which promotes the dignity of all beings.
Strengthen the hearts and the hands of those who protect Israel and her neighbors. Grant them discernment and love. And guide them to fulfill the vision of Your prophet: Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. And let us say: Amen
