Thank you for your interest in Hevreh of Southern Berkshire!
Since 1974, Hevreh has been the home address for progressive, meaningful and engaged Jewish living in Great Barrington, MA. We often hear that the biggest draw to Hevreh is the people, and the welcoming and accepting spirit of a comfortably intergenerational congregation. We are egalitarian, joyful, musical, passionate about social justice, and engaged in our community.. The Hevreh community is enthusiastic about Jewish life in the Berkshires and has a vibrant and dynamic Religious School, a thriving Early Childhood Center (ECC), and an expansive program of Lifelong Learning. Hevreh is a mix of Berkshire natives and others who have come from somewhere else and now call the Berkshires home, either all year long or during the summer.
Hevreh offers dynamic and creative worship services as well as social and educational programs for our members and all visitors. We provide an active community to those who wish to make a difference, a caring community for its members, and a nurturing community to those seeking connection. Whether your interest is a Jewish education for your children, experiencing a variety of worship services, thought-provoking adult education, repairing the world, or finding a community of friends, we have activities to introduce those looking for a spiritual home and for community.

Membership is a Covenant:
Hevreh is very proud to have a congregational covenant that is by and for Hevreh members and defines how we behave in our congregational community. It is a covenant of understanding that delineates the ethics of Jewish values, the commitments and promises we make to each other on this sacred journey, how we interact with each other, and our expectations of one another. This covenant has the strength of a pledge or moral obligation to mutually create a culture that is caring, safe, and inclusive. As a member you enter into a covenant with the Hevreh Community.

Covid made us strangers in a strange land and Hevreh became our rock; a little patch of the world where a world upside made a bit more sense, and where we had a community of Jewish joy and belonging.
