2024 Congregational TransitioN

As we celebrate our 50th year as a community, Hevreh is excited to start a new chapter. In December 2023, our Board of Trustees shared that Rabbi Neil Hirsch will be leaving Hevreh in June 2024 to start a new phase of his rabbinate. We are proud to announce that our longtime Rabbi and Director of Education, Rabbi Jodie Gordon, will become Senior Rabbi of Hevreh on July 1, 2024.

Our congregation is fortunate to be moving forward from a strong position, Over 340 families and individuals enliven the Hevreh community through their presence, leadership, and enthusiasm for Jewish life in the Berkshires, a vibrant and dynamic Religious School, a thriving Early Childhood Center (ECC), and an expansive program of Lifelong Learning.

STAFFING TRANSITIONS

Familiar faces and new roles.

Our team is working hard to build out our professional staff. As Rabbi Gordon becomes Senior Rabbi and the sole clergyperson at Hevreh, she will be concluding her tenure as the Director of Education. In partnership with lay leaders and key stakeholders, Hevreh is creating a new position to lead our congregational learning and engagement into the future.

Rabbi Jodie Gordon will be Senior Rabbi beginning July 1, 2024.

Rabbi Gordon writes: "I look forward to this significant milestone in my rabbinate and in the life of Hevreh with great joy and humility.  I have loved this community since I first arrived as an intern in the summer of 2012, and the sense of fulfillment and pride I take from my work here has only grown and deepened over the years. This next chapter in my work at Hevreh will coincide with the ten year anniversary of my ordination as a rabbi. I could not be more energized and excited for this next stage. I am energized by imagining all that we can accomplish and create together in the years ahead as we reap the seeds of learning, music, Jewish joy, and connection that we have planted over these first ten years. It is one of the great blessings of my life to feel that I have found not only a professional home, but a home and an amazing life for me and my family, and I am grateful to Hevreh’s board for this meaningful investment in my leadership."

Joan Goldberg Munch will continue to serve as Hevreh Interim Administrator.

Joan, who was Hevreh’s Religious School Administrator, moved into the position of Interim Administrator in November 2023. We are fortunate and delighted that she has agreed to continue to act as Hevreh Interim Administrator through June 2023. Joan has deep knowledge of and commitment to our congregation, and has smoothly moved into her leadership position managing Hevreh’s daily operations.

Director of Congregational Learning & Engagement

The Director of Congregational Learning & Engagement will be a professional partner to Rabbi Gordon, with responsibility for leading formal and informal education at Hevreh, including Religious School, Youth and Family Education, and Adult Learning.

What comes next?

To foster strength and unity as we begin Hevreh’s next chapter on July 1, 2024, as a strong and united community, as staffing plans are solidified over the upcoming weeks and months, Rabbi Gordon, Hevreh staff, and the Board of Trustees will stay in good communication with you, our congregation. We will stay in touch on this web page, by email, and more throughout the process.
